How we work with...

Libraries

Public Libraries and Systems

Resources for Libraries and Lifelong Learning (RL&LL) staff works with public libraries and systems on resource sharing issues and programs, including interlibrary loan, reference services, access to full-text and digitized materials, and provision of specialized materials. Some public libraries take part in the Wisconsin Document Depository Program. RL&LL staff meet with public library system interlibrary loan and reference staff several times per year.

Schools

Our staff works with school libraries on resource sharing issues and programs, including interlibrary loan, reference services, access to full-text and digitized materials, and provision of specialized materials. RL&LL coordinates implementation of the AskAway virtual reference services within Wisconsin schools.

Academic Libraries

Resources for Libraries and Lifelong Learning (RL&LL) staff works with academic libraries on resource sharing issues and programs, including interlibrary loan, reference services, access to full-text and digitized materials, and provision of specialized materials. Some academic libraries take part in the Wisconsin Document Depository Program.

Institution Libraries

Resources for Libraries and Lifelong Learning provides resource sharing services to libraries in correctional institutions, mental health institutions and other institutions in the state. The provision of services to inmates and residents in these institutions are subject to the guidelines and rules of the specific state agencies responsible for the institution, and to the guidelines and rules of each individual institution.

Special Libraries

Our staff works with correctional, health care institution, hospital and clinic, corporate and other types of special libraries on resource sharing issues and programs, including interlibrary loan, reference services, access to full-text and digitized materials, and provision of specialized materials.

State Government Agency Libraries and Employees

RL&LL works with state agency libraries on resource sharing issues and programs, including interlibrary loan, reference services, access to full-text and digitized materials, and provision of specialized materials. State agency employees may receive direct library services from RL&LL. The Wisconsin Document Depository Program and the Wisconsin Digital Archives collects publications from state government agencies for distribution.

Wisconsin Historical Society, State Law Library, and Legislative Reference Bureau

RL&LL works with the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Law Library, and the Legislative Reference Bureau work collaboratively on issues related to the Wisconsin Document Depository Program and the Wisconsin Digital Archives.

Wisconsin Regional Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped

The Department of Public Instruction provides funding for the Regional Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped and for the NFB Newsline service. The director of Resources for Libraries and Lifelong Learning (RL&LL) serves as the Department contact person and maintains the Regional Library web site.


Advisory Committees

Resources for Libraries and Lifelong Learning (RL&LL) staff assists with meeting arrangements for, provides background information to, and consider the advice of the following Department of Public Instruction Advisory Committees. Staff members from all types of libraries serves on advisory committees.

COLAND (Council on Library and Network Development)

COLAND works to assure that all state citizens have access to library and information services.

LITAC (Library Information Technology Advisory Committee)

LITAC provides advice and consultation on the application of technology to library programs for all types of Wisconsin libraries.

LSTA (Library Services and Technology Act)

Here is a description of LSTA and our relationship with the committee.

Blind and Visual Impairment Education Council

The State Superintendent's Blind and Visual Impairment Education Council provides advice on educational and library services to blind and visually impaired people. This Council provides advice on the services of the Regional Library for the Blind and Visually Handicapped and NFB-Newsline.

Delivery Service Advisory Committee

The DSAC reviews issues related to the statewide delivery of library materials to all types of libraries.


Other Library Organizations

Cooperative Children's Book Center

The Department of Public Instruction provides a portion of the funding for the Cooperative Children´s Book Center. Resources for Libraries and Lifelong Learning (RL&LL) staff serves as the Department contact person and some historical children’s materials are housed at RL&LL.

Wisconsin Library Services (WiLS)

Resources for Libraries and Lifelong Learning (RL&LL) has a contract with WiLS to provide interlibrary loan from the UW-Madison campus and the Wisconsin Historical Society.

Child Care Providers and Community

The Child Care Information Center is housed at RL≪ services are provided through a contract with the Department of Workforce Development.






IMLS Logo

This service is provided by the Department of Public Instruction, Division for Libraries, Technology, and Community Learning using federal Library Services and Technology Act funds received from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).
