What: Adolescent literacy leaders Kelly Gallagher and Doug Buehl will share classroom-tested motivational techniques to help adolescents understand the importance of being readers

October 3: Wisconsin Council of Teachers of English Fall Conference
Where: Pyle Center, 702 Langdon Street, Madison
What: 50th Anniversary Conference. Keynote speaker William Kist and over 40 breakout sessions to choose from. This year’s theme is Literacy and Learning: A World of Possibilities

October 4 OR October 18: WSRA Institute on Response to Intervention

What: Presenters Dick Allington, Linda Dorn and Peter Johnston (all nationally recognized for work with RtI) will offer practical applications of collaborative, instruction-based RtI processes

What: National Conference for English educators. This year’s theme is Because Shift Happens: Teaching in the 21st Century

DPI English Language Arts CESA Workshops on 21st Century Units
What: DPI ELA Consultant, Emilie Amundson, will offer a two day series on building thematic units for the 21st century in CESAs around the state. Participants will use the Partnership for 21st Century Skills Framework to re-vision existing units of study. We will also discuss relevant ELA topics such as standards revision, high school to college transition, adolescent literacy, and writing. This is a hands-on workshop. Graduate credit may be available.
