World Languages Education

Why learn languages?

People today are connecting across cultural, political, and economic borders via the Internet and other information technologies. To meet the challenges of ever-increasing global connections and to be a front-runner in a global economy now in the twenty-first century, students in Wisconsin must communicate in a culturally appropriate manner with people from around the world. Our students must be aware of different perspectives reflected in both the language and behaviors of other people. They must possess language skills and an understanding of other cultures in order to be productive members of the diverse communities in which we all live.
