World Languages: Grant Opportunities

Grant Opportunities - Foreign Languages

Federal Foreign Language Assistance Program Grants (FLAP)

The U. S. Department of Education website lists current grant competitions and provides for downloading applications. Grant announcements are also accessible.

Purposes: Establishment, improvement, or expansion of foreign language study for elementary and secondary school students with these competitive preference priorities: intensive summer foreign language programs for professional development; linking non-native English speakers in the community with the schools to promote two-way language learning; and sequential study of a foreign language beginning in elementary schools.

The website of the Joint National Committee for Languages (JNCL) is updated weekly to reflect the status of the US Department of Education's Foreign Language Assistance Program (FLAP): http://www.languagepolicy.org/

Even if you are not going to submit a FLAP grant this year, you can learn much about the grant writing process to help with writing a grant in the future by being a reader for this year's grant competition. The US Department of Education is currently seeking readers for the upcoming FLAP grant competition. Email your resume and statement of interest to:

Itzetht.Testa-Salcedo@ed.gov
and CC: Rebecca.Richey@ed.gov

Most of the work of the readers may be done electronically to avoid the need for travel to Washington, DC.
