1. LIBRARIANS ASKED TO RESPOND TO ONLINE LSTA EVALUATION SURVEY
The Division for Libraries, Technology, and Community Learning is conducting an evaluation of the federal LSTA (Library Services and Technology Act) program to assess the use of the LSTA funds in Wisconsin from 2003-2007 and develop a new five-year plan for the use of LSTA funds for 2008-2012.
An assessment and review of the LSTA program by the Wisconsin library community, including librarians in academic, school, public, and special libraries, is very important to these evaluation and planning efforts. We would appreciate your response to a web survey designed for this purpose. The survey is available at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=767802912053 and will take 15-20 minutes to complete. Josh Morrill of MorrillSolutions Research is conducting the survey and will analyze the results. Responses will be confidential and we are allowing for a two-week data collection period.
We hope you will respond to the survey at your earliest convenience. If you have any questions or would like additional information on the LSTA program, please contact Peg Branson, LSTA Program Coordinator, at 608/266-2413 or peg.branson@dpi.state.wi.us.

3. NEW RLL ACQUISITIONS PROMOTE TEEN READING
During the past year, the Reference and Loan Library has acquired several titles to promote reading to teenagers. The newest title is "A Passion for Print: Promoting Reading and Books to Teens," by Kristine Mahood. Separate chapters address teen spaces, collections, displays and websites. Based on the author's and others' experiences, the book includes insights on marketing to teens. Based both on research on teen behavior and personal experience, the book is filled with practical guidelines and ideas for book-centered activities geared to young adults.
School library media specialists and librarians at special libraries may request materials by sending an e-mail to rllill@dpi.state.wi.us. Public and academic libraries may request materials through their local interlibrary loan network.
4. SUMMER LIBRARY PROGRAM REMINDER
To guarantee March 1, 2007, delivery of Summer Library Program materials, orders must be received by December 1, 2006. Don't delay, mail your order form now, or order online at http://www.upstartpromotions.com/cslp.
5. ALSC/BWI SUMMER READING PROGRAM GRANT
Sponsored by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) and Book Wholesalers, Inc. (BWI), this $3,000 grant is awarded annually to a librarian for the purpose of underwriting a creative, innovative summer reading program. It is designed to encourage reading programs for children in a public library by providing financial assistance of $3,000, while recognizing ALSC members for outstanding program development. The applicant must plan and present an outline for a theme-based summer reading program in a public library.
What would YOUR library do with $3000 to support summer reading? Now is the time to get an application at: https://www.ala.org/ala/alsc/awardsscholarships/profawards/bookwholesalers/bookwholesalers.htm. The application deadline is December 1, 2006.
6. PUBLIC LIBRARY INTERNET SURVEY
The American Library Association and the College of Information at Florida State University, along with support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, are surveying public libraries regarding their Internet connectivity and computing resources. Information on this survey has recently been sent out nationwide to a selected sample of over 4,000 public libraries. In Wisconsin, 217 public libraries have been selected to participate in the survey. The division encourages those libraries selected to complete the survey. In past ALA surveys on Internet connectivity, we've had a good response rate (about 70%) from our public libraries. More information and a link to the survey can be found at http://www.plinternetsurvey.org/.
7. BREAK A WORLD READING RECORD WITH "CHARLOTTE'S WEB"
