The Department of Public Instruction and the Council on Library and Network Development (COLAND) are planning a Strategic Visioning Summit for the spring of 2008.

A Strategic Visioning Summit website has been created to allow interested individuals to track the progress of planning for the Summit and also to contribute ideas for the Summit discussion and nominate potential Summit participants. The website can be found at http://dpi.wi.gov/coland/vision.html. The left-hand toolbar provides access to various parts of the website including the visioning questions and a nomination form. Please take time to fill out the visioning questions to assist in the planning process and to nominate yourself or others as potential participants.

3. NEW PLA AWARD FOR INNOVATION IN LIBRARY SERVICES

The Public Library Association (PLA) is now accepting nominations and applications for the Polaris Innovation in Technology John Iliff Award. The deadline for submitting an application is December 3, 2007.

The Polaris Innovation in Technology John Iliff Award honors the life and accomplishments of John Iliff, early adopter and champion of technology in public libraries, and recognizes the contributions of a library worker, librarian, or library that has used technology and innovative thinking as a tool to improve services to public library users.

The purpose of this award is to encourage innovative user-oriented thinking and practical solutions using old and new technologies. The award provides a $1,000 honorarium, a plaque, and a bouquet of roses for the workplace of the awardee. The cash award honors the recipient's efforts, while the roses sent to the workplace honor the environment that helped nurture the recipient's innovation.

Visit PLA's Online Awards Application to apply or nominate a colleague for the award. Information on the award and a link to the application can be found at http://pla.org/ala/pla/plaawards/John_Iliff_Award.cfm.
