1. CCBC DIRECTOR NAMED 2010 MAY HILL ARBUTHNOT HONOR LECTURER
Kathleen Horning, director of the Cooperative Children's Book Center (CCBC) of the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has been selected to deliver the 2010 May Hill Arbuthnot Honor Lecture. The announcement was made at the press conference during the American Library Association's Midwinter Meeting in Denver announcing the children's and young adult literature awards. The Arbuthnot lecturer, chosen annually, may be an author, critic, librarian, historian, or teacher of children's literature who is chosen to deliver a paper that will be a significant contribution to the field of children's literature.
Horning will deliver the lecture in April of 2010. The location has not yet been determined. Sites wishing to host the lecture go through an application process.

2. LIBRARIES COMPLETE PC INVENTORY FOR GATES GRANT
The Wisconsin public libraries possibly eligible to receive PCs as part of a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation have now completed the initial process of taking an inventory of their public access PCs. Libraries may be eligible for grants to replace PCs that are over 4 years old or add additional PCs, based on criteria set by the foundation. The foundation is now reviewing the PC inventory data from each library. In early March the foundation will notify the Division for Libraries, Technology, and Community Learning on exactly how many PCs each eligible library will receive. The libraries will then be asked to send a letter to the division by the end of March stating that they will or will not participate in the grant. More information on the grant program is available on the Web at
