Course Options District Code

2010-11 and Beyond

For Course Options students taking up to two courses in a district other than the submitting district, identify the district providing educational services for this section.

NOTE: Part-time Open Enrollment was replaced in statute with Course Options prior to the 2013-14 school year though reporting changes did not take effect until the 2014-15 school year. Students attending an institution of higher education or technical college under Course Options will be reported under the Dual Enrollment provisions found on pages 22 and 23 of the CWCS Data Elements Guide. Student attending a course or courses in another public school district will be reported under the provisions in this section.

  • Part 1 includes the number of resident students attending another school district for purposes of participation as a student in the Course Options program.
  • Part 2 includes the number of non-resident students attending courses offered within your district under Course Options.
  • As of SY2013-2014 (collection year 2014) CWCS Phase 4 – CW1 in accordance with s. 118.52, Wis. Stats any student enrolled in grade level K-12 may qualify as a participant in a Course Options program, which equated to part-time open enrollment during 2011-12, 2012-13, and 2013-2014 school years.
  • This count does not include resident private school and home based students who take courses under s. 118.145(4), Wis. Stats. Or s. 118.53 Wis. Stats. Nor does it include students’ enrolled in a postsecondary program. This data is used to complete the School performance Report (SPR) s. 115.38, Wis. Stats. In addition, the courses offered by your district and the student count for only non-resident students.
  • Course Options district is collected as a required field for CWCS data collections.

USES: Course Options District is needed to meet the requirements of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and address existing gaps in the state LDS data sets, the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) will build a new student level data collection and begin accumulating new data the first quarter of 2011 and beyond. The main objectives of this effort will be to address 2 key components referenced in ARRA and specified in the America COMPETES Act, the ability to match teachers with students and capture student-level transcript information, including courses completed. The School Performance Report (SPR) was created in 1991 with the passage of s.115.38, WI Statutes which includes reporting of courses offered and student participation in World Languages, Youth Options, and Course Options courses/programs.
