1993 Task Force on Community Education Final Report



Final Report to State Superintendent John Benson from the State Community Education Task Force:

State Task Force on Community Education
Approved at the meeting held in Madison on April 30, 1993 with John Benson, State Superintendent of Public Instruction—with Task Force members.

Those present:  Thomas Joynt (chair), Jane Grinde, Stan Potts, Chuck Ericksen, Bob Heebink, John Schmitt, Germaine Hillmer, John Wigman, and James Stewart.

  • Every Person is valued and recognizes his/her potential
  • Every Community and individuals within the community embraces a lifelong learning process which leads to quality of life improvements and commitment to community renewal.
  • Every community devotes all possible resources to meet the learning 
The State Task Force on Community Education - Recommendations:

1) Wisconsin communities must have a shared knowlege-base relative to community education.

 a) State-wide information campaign
 b) Members of the Task Force promote community education through existing channels

2) Communities annually review needs, assess resources, and plan for action to meet local priorities

a) DPI report card will inventory existing community education activities
b) Community focus groups will identify existing or potential community education activities and a plan for implementation through partnerships and collaboration

3) Public and administrative policy supports community education (such as legislation)

4) Separate DPI initiatives are unified under the umbrella of community education.
