Community Education Tool Kit
Interagency Cooperation/Coordination


GOAL

A regular contact with community agencies and organizations for the purposes of a) joint planning, b) avoiding duplications of services/efforts, and c) insuring expanded community services through the existing community infrastructure.

Objective: To establish formal and informal working agreements with key area agencies.

Measurement Criteria:

  1. Cooperative agreements (written or otherwise) which exists - purpose - scope - and funding

Objective: To identify local and regional public, semi-public, and private agencies which could serve community needs.

Measurement Criteria:

  1. Resource list of agencies, missions, personnel, funding, current programming

Objective: To utilize a diverse mix of cultural, recreational, social, and educational agencies serving all age groups.

Measurement Criteria:

  1. Demographics on agencies cooperating

Objective: To promote frequent communication, cooperation between community agencies.

Measurement Criteria:

  1. Media/communication links used on a cooperative basis.
  2. Agency input / role on community council.
  3. Interagency councils or planning committees.
  4. Frequency of written/phone/meeting contacts.
  5. Electronic methods of communicating such as listservs, e-mail and web sites.

Objective: To implement community education programs and services based on the following progression of priorities.

  1. Seek to facilitate service delivery of programs and services
  2. Seek to co-sponsor service delivery
  3. Seek to sponsor services directly since no other agency /organization is able to offer the service

Measurement Criteria:

  1. Program listing of all community education services divided into three categories (the DC Everest Model) — link to diagram.
  2. Document understanding of this progression by the community council, Board of Education, agency personnel, and the community

Community Needs/Resource Assessment Chart

Use this chart to determine the number of existing community programs in each area. By using the chart, community gaps will become apparent. These will provide your community with indicators of high needs and priorities.
