Community Education Tool Kit- Advisory Council -Why Serve?

Because We

Want to make friends — people who know and respect each other often work well together
Want recognition — people who are rewarded continue to be good council members
Want experience — people who learn new skills use them for everyone's benefit
Want authority — those who practice leadership can bring about important community change
Were asked and could not say no — often the reluctant joiner develops into the strong supporter
Were assigned or appointed — people who carry viewpoints from group to group build better communications within the community
Want something to do — people who finally find the time to get involved appreciate the opportunity to make a difference
Want a stepping stone to other opportunities — people who plan to move on will be driven to excellence
Have an ax to grind — people who do care will work hard to correct the problem
