Education Specialist - Homeless Education Monitoring

The Department of Public Instruction, the Division for Reading and Student Acheivement, is currently seeking an Education Specialist limited term employee. The position is located at 125 South Webster Street, Madison.

This position is anticipated to work approximately 20 hours per week for approximately one year. The salary is $16.345 per hour.

Job Duties

This position will work with the Education for Homless Children and Youth (EHCY) Program. This LTE Monitoring Education Specialist will work under the supervision of the Department's EHCY program coordinator to do the following: 1) conduct desk and on-site monitoring visits of Wisconsin's school districts to ensure full compliance with the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Act, 2) provide technical assistance and "best practice" information to school districts regarding their responsibilities to fulfill all federal legislative requirements that require services to families, children and youth who are homeless, 3) prepare monitoring reports, 4) collect information to comply with USDE and Department monitoring responsibilities, and 5) collect necessary data from Wisconsin school districts to complete the annual USDE Consolidated State Performance Report.

The selection process for this position will include a criminal background check.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong oral and written communication skills. Skill in resolving complaints. Computer skills including Microsoft Office and Outlook. Knowledge and concern about poverty and homelessness issues. Prior experience working with homeless/high poverty populations is a plus.
