WSLS/ISES Update

DATE: September 15, 2006 (Email)
TO: WSLS/ISES Administrators
WSLS/ISES Assistant Administrators
FROM: WSLS/ISES Help Desk
SUBJECT: WSAS Roster File #1 / WSLS Match Review / Helpdesk Expert Tool

PLEASE DISTRIBUTE THIS MESSAGE TO ALL DISTRICT STAFF WORKING IN WSLS or ISES

WSAS ROSTER FILE #1

Reminder. On MONDAY, OCTOBER 2 at 8 am DPI will generate the WSAS roster file #1 that will be used to generate testing labels. WSLS must be current and accurate for the WSAS Roster to be accurate. WSLS will be the primary source of data for the WSAS labels. Out of date or invalid school enrollment periods in WSLS could result in label delivery to the wrong district/school or hand coding of student data. Districts should focus on bringing WSLS up-to-date by September 28, 2006.

ISES data will also be used if available. September ISES Count Date data need not contain all the ISES data elements that are required for final ISES lock. The WSAS testing contractor will receive a more complete and up to date WSAS Roster file from DPI after final ISES lock in November. However, including current grade level placements in ISES by the end of this week is strongly recommended. Primary disability and English language proficiency codes might also be locally useful and will appear on the labels if these data are available in ISES.

WSLS MATCH REVIEW

In an effort to reduce the number of students with multiple WSNs, the WSLS process which identifies possible existing matches for newly submitted students has been modified. You may notice an increase in the number of students who require Match Review.

From the Match Summary page, select a student to view possible matches, review one or more students from the list of possible matches. If you determine that one of the possible match students is a match to your student then you would request an exit confirmation for the student's most recent school. If you determine that none of the possible match students are a match to your student then you click on the Match Review icon to review more possible matches or to assign a new WSN.

HELPDESK EXPERT TOOL

We have implemented a new tool to aide in providing support for our web applications. The Helpdesk Expert Tool will help in efficiently providing help to school districts for data collections. Over time the HelpDesk Expert Tool will be incorporated into existing DPI applications. The Helpdesk Expert Tool can be accessed from http://dpi.wi.gov/lbstat/helptool.html

From the web link above, you can log in to the Helpdesk Expert tool, access the screen to set up a new account, retrieve a lost password, or view documentation/instruction for using the tool. When you select the Helpdesk Expert icon while in an application, it will open a new web page browser so you will not lose your position in the application.

To begin using this tool you must set up your User Account. You may set this to be the same as your WAMS user ID and password.

Tickets created via the HelpDesk tool will be addressed before questions submitted via the dpistats email address.
