Corrections to Public Enrollment Provide by Public School Districts

Public Enrollment

There are several different enrollment reports. This information is collected from public school districts on the PI-1290, Public Enrollment Report. All public enrollment reports start with PE in the file name. The last two digits of the file name indicate the end of the school year. For example, 00 represents the 1999-2000 school year, or 01 represents the 2000-2001 school year. Data may be provided at various levels, such as statewide, district, or school. Enrollment is a headcount of students who are physically attending schools or receiving homebound instruction as of the third Friday in September.

2004-05 ENROLLMENT DATA DISCLAIMER

Major changes in Wisconsin data collection systems were implemented in 2004-05. 2004-05 enrollment data were included in this transition year collection and are not comprehensive so should be interpreted with caution.

Public Enrollment Master (PEM) (Download Excel files)
This is the master public enrollment file, which is based on grade level data by gender and ethnicity/race within individual schools. Enrollment is a one-time count on the third Friday in September. The file includes district name, district number, district type (00=County Children with Disabilities Education Board, 03=public school district, 05=State Education Agencies, and 49=Milwaukee "non-instrumentality" Charter schools), county code, county name, CESA, WTCS (formerly VTAE) district initial, school code, and school name. The file size is 3.13 mb.

Rankings by Enrollment Size (PEDR) (Download Excel files)
This is a district level enrollment report. It ranks districts by size based on the third Friday in September enrollment count. The report lists school districts starting with the largest and ending with the smallest. It also includes the county code, county name, and CESA.

Public Enrollment by District by School by Gender (Download Excel files)
This report is arranged several different ways (district, county or CESA). The data is based on the third Friday in September. Each school within the district is listed. An enrollment count by gender and total is listed. The type of school (elementary, middle, etc.) and the low grade and high grade of the school is listed. District totals are included. CESA and county codes are included. Depending on the sort type selected, CESA or county totals are available.

Public Enrollment Statewide by Grade (PESTGr) (Download Excel files)
This is a statewide summary of the third Friday in September enrollment. It counts enrollment by ethnicity, gender, and grade.
