WSLS Exit Confirmation Checklist

A goal of WSLS is for each student to retain his or her own unique WSN throughout the PK-12 experience. It is relatively easy to assign Wisconsin Student Numbers (WSNs), but a sustained effort is required to ensure that the WSNs follow students as they move from school to school and district to district. Timely exit confirmation request processing is critical to the success of WSLS. Other districts/schools may interpret lack of response as a denial and assign a new WSN to your student. If your student gets a new WSN when moving to a new district/school, then WSLS cannot verify the transfer of your student and ISES may count your student as a dropout.

  1. Is contact information entered in WSLS preferences current? Are WSLS preferences set up for all schools in your district including newly opened schools? If not, then go to the WSLS Web Application to set preferences. (Main Menu - District/School WSLS Preferences). [More*]
  2. The primary and secondary contacts for your school and district as saved in the District/School WSLS Preferences will receive emails with a count of the number of outstanding exit requests received by your school/district.
  3. Review exit confirmation requests for your students from other schools (Main Menu - Exit Confirmation). [More*]
  4. Research student to determine if he/she is still attending your school.
  5. If student is still attending your school, deny the exit request. [More*]
  6. If student has exited your school, enter the student's exit date and confirm the exit request. [More*]
  7. If the enroll date submitted by the requesting school conflicts with the exit date for your school, then deny the exit request and notify the requesting school to resubmit the request with no more the 14 days overlap with your exit date. [More*]
  8. Repeat steps 3 through 6 until all exit requests have been resolved. (Note: users are not required to complete the list before exiting the screen; however users are encouraged to keep current with their exit confirmation requests.)
