Note:
  • A WAMS ID is needed to log in and access LDS Secure Tools.
  • The terms WAMS ID, Wisconsin User ID and WAMS Wisconsin ID are used interchangeably.
  • A WAMS ID does not guarantee access to LDS Secure Tools. Authorizations for LDS Secure Tools will be set up by your District ASM Administrator or Application Administrator through the ASM tool.

Application Security Manager (ASM)

What is ASM?
ASM is a tool that manages
  • Who can manage access to secure reporting applications (i.e., who can use ASM)
  • Who has access to certain secure reporting applications
  • What a user can see/do within an application (roles)
Authority to use ASM will be given to a District ASM Administrator. The District ASM Administrator can either be the district superintendent or an individual the superintendent has appointed. As the district security administrator, or District ASM Administrator, the individual has the responsibility to assign an application administrator for each secure tool. The District MDAT Application Administrator and the District SAFE Application Administrator will then have the responsibility to manage user access to these secure tools for users within the district. As a note, the District ASM Administrator may assign him/herself the role of District MDAT Security Administrator and/or District SAFE Administrator.

Click ASM Step-by-Step Guide for an overview and directions for using Application Security Manager.

ASM Q&A
  1. If I am a District Superintendent, how do I get access to ASM to start setting up users in my district to use MDAT or SAFE?
All ASM, MDAT and SAFE users need a WAMS Wisconsin User ID to be given access to the tools and to log in once given access. Once you have an ID, fill out all information in the District Superintendent Authorization Form and submit the form through the 24x7 DPI Online Helpdesk Application. Your typed in signature will serve as your electronic signature. Users of ASM are expected to view and understand the LDS Student Privacy Information presentation.

  2. As a District Superintendent, am I required to be the District ASM Administrator??
No. When filling out the District Superintendent Authorization Form please provide information for the individual you would like to assign the role of District ASM Administrator.

  3. I have received notice that I am set up in ASM as the District ASM Administrator. What now?
If you are the District ASM Administrator, you can now log in to assign a District MDAT Application Administrator and/or a District SAFE Application Administrator. Review the ASM Step-by-Step Guide for an overview and directions for using Application Security Manager.

  4. I have received notice that I am set up in ASM as the District MDAT or SAFE Application Administrator. What now?
You have been selected to manage who in your district may use MDAT and/or SAFE. After reviewing the ASM Step-by-Step Guide, you can log in to provide individual users in your district with access and roles in MDAT or SAFE.

  5. I have received notice that I am set up in ASM as the District ASM Administrator. Will I be able to provide individual users in my district with access to MDAT or SAFE?
No. First you must log in to assign a District MDAT Application Administrator and/or a District SAFE Application Administrator. Even if you will fulfill all three roles, you must assign each role specifically to yourself.

  6. How do I get access to ASM if I am not the District ASM Administrator or District Application (MDAT or SAFE) Administrator?
Only the District ASM Administrator and the Application Administrators will have access to SAFE. Users interested in using MDAT or SAFE do NOT need authority to use ASM. Instead, they may contact the appropriate Application Administrator for their district to request access.

  7. What kinds of access and roles can be managed using ASM?
Roles in ASM are based on whether you are delegating someone as a user of ASM (i.e., someone else to manage who can access secure reporting tools), or whether you are delegating someone with access to a specific secure reporting tool, such as MDAT or SAFE. Roles, and their descriptions, are provided in the ASM Role Document. They are also provided in the ASM application.

Multi-Dimensional Analytic Tool (MDAT)

What is MDAT?
MDAT is a flexible, web-based tool that allows authorized users to
  • create reports that compare achievement over time in relation to WKCE data
  • select variables and filters to answer questions of their choice
  • access specific data and variables based on their user role
  • use charts and graphs to analyze school and student progress over time
Additionally, the following enhancements were added in March:
  • Group size highlighting
  • State and district comparisons
  • Availability of student detail from a district wide query (Tiers 1-3 only)
  • The addition of school name to the download file (Tier 1 only)
  • An option to download all student details for certain queries (Tier 1 only)
Click MDAT Overview for a summary presentation.

Click MDAT Step-by-Step to view a presentation on how to use the tool or view the MDAT Guide video for a walk through.

MDAT Q&A
  1. As an individual user, how do I get access to MDAT?
To gain access to MDAT, as well as to log in to the application, you must have a WAMS Wisconsin User ID. Once you have your WAMS ID, your District MDAT Application Administrator can authorize and set up your access using your WAMS Wisconsin User ID. Please email your District MDAT Application Administrator to inquire about access to MDAT. If you do not know who your District MDAT Application Administrator is for MDAT, click here. If an administrator is not listed for your district, please contact the 24x7 DPI Online Helpdesk Application.
  2. How do I become a district application administrator to enable users in my district to use MDAT?
For your district to be able to use MDAT a District ASM Security Administrator must be set up by DPI in the Application Security Manager tool. This tool enables the District ASM Security Administrator to delegate administration of MDAT to an MDAT Application Administrator who will then be able to provide authorized users in their district with access to MDAT. Please see Application Security Manager(ASM) for more information on the steps necessary to start the process of enabling your district to use MDAT.

Multi-Dimensional Analytic Tool (MDAT) Training Version

What is the MDAT Training Version?
The MDAT Training version of the application contains fictitious data and should be used for presentations and training purposes. The goal of this version of the tool is to enable hands-on training sessions to be held for users while ensuring student data remains confidential.

Confidentiality and security protocols should be exercised in all training involving school or district data. If a training participant already has access to MDAT, they may view their own data in the class, but must keep their data secure from other users. Participants without access to their own school or district data should use the MDAT Training Application for hands-on work.

MDAT Training Q&A
  1. As an individual district user, how do I get access to the MDAT Training Version?
To gain access to the MDAT Training Version, please follow the same procedures listed above to gain access to MDAT.

  2. How do I enable users in my district to use the MDAT Training Version?
For your district to be able to use the MDAT Training Version, please follow the same procedures listed above that you would follow to enable users in your district to use MDAT.

  3. I am a trainer holding a training session. How do I gain access to the MDAT Training Version?
If you are an MDAT user within a specific district, follow the same procedures listed above that you would follow to request MDAT access. If you are holding a training session and would like to use MDAT Training but are not in a specific district (for example, a CESA representative), please email ldshelp@dpi.wi.gov.

  4. I am holding a training session. How do I enable participants in the training session to use the MDAT Training Version if they have not been setup with access yet within their district?
In order for training participants without access to MDAT to use MDAT Training, please submit a request through the 24x7 DPI Online Helpdesk Application, and we will email you with a temporary ID and password for your training session/data retreat. That ID/password will expire following the class and participants should be notified to request individual access to MDAT Training if they would like regular use of the tool.
Secure Access File Exchange (SAFE)

What is SAFE?
