Wisconsin Team Nutrition Training Grant Abstract

Program Description: The Wisconsin 2007 Team Nutrition Project is a onetime only discretionary grant for a nutrition education implementation project during the 2008-9 school year. The project sites have been selected, and no additional sites will be added. The project started June 1, 2008 and ends June 30, 2009. The project uses a multifaceted approach to promote healthy eating and physical activity among school-aged children and youth. This approach includes:

  • Nutrition education and training on the Wisconsin nutrition education standards and nutrition curriculum. Included in the trainings will be fun and interactive nutrition education ideas and effective strategies to engage students and parents.
  • Pilot implementation of the nutrition education standards in grades K-12.
  • Information and training sessions for parents, through parent leadership groups, to promote healthy food choices through parental role modeling.
  • Compile a "Kid Tested, Family Approved and Classroom Friendly" healthy meal and snack idea and recipe book to empower parents and students to meet TN key messages.
  • Nutrition services staff training specific to increasing their capacity to meet the USDA HealthierUS Challenge and 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGAs).

Who was Eligible to Apply: Wisconsin School districts that are Team nutrition members.
