Preschool to Grade 5 (P-5) Program
Discretionary Grant Program

Program Description: The Preschool to Grade-5 program provides effective education for excellence and equity by enrolling large numbers of economically disadvantaged students. Presently, there are 38 schools participating in the Beloit, Kenosha, Milwaukee, and Racine school district  programs. Funds are used to provide successful supplementary educational services. The primary P-5 goal is to provide schools, with a high percentage of children living in poverty, additional funding to improve academic achievement and to close the achievement gap.

Who is Eligible to Apply: Urban elementary schools in Wisconsin

Amount of Funds Available: $193,000 per school per year

Application Due Date: Annually, individual schools must revise and submit proposals for review by the state P-5 director on or before July 30th.

Legislation: §115.45, Wis. Stats. provides individual schools considerable autonomy to promote site-based management. Guidelines can be accessed at the Office of Urban Education (OUE) webpage hotlink below.
