Wisconsin Schools of Recognition Teacher Fellowship Program

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are only teachers from Wisconsin Schools of Recognition eligible?
The funding from this program comes from the No Child Left Behind Act, and it explicitly states that only teachers from certain schools, identified in Wisconsin as Wisconsin Schools of Recognition, are eligible.

How do I know if my school is eligible?
Here is a list of the 2011-12 Wisconsin Schools of Recognition.

Is there another way to apply instead of the online application?
All applicants MUST apply online. FFT will accept applications between October 1, 2011, and January 27, 2012. Online submissions must be made by 5:00 pm CST on Friday, January 27, 2012. The only portion of the application that must be mailed is the signature page ("Cover Sheet"), which must be postmarked by Friday, January 27, 2012.

When will I receive notification of whether I have received a grant?
All Selection Committee result notifications will be mailed to each applicant on March 30, 2012.

What is Fund for Teachers?
Fund for Teachers enriches the personal and professional growth of teachers by recognizing and supporting them as they identify and pursue opportunities around the globe that will have the greatest impact on their practice, the academic lives of their students and on their school communities.

Is there any follow-up required if I receive this grant?
Grant recipients should understand that other obligations accompany the grant, including:

  • Pre-Fellowship meetings
  • Post-Fellowship meetings (up to one year following the Fellowship)
  • Documentation relating to Fellowship

I’m busy this summer; can I use the grant over the winter break?
No, Fellowships must begin after the last day of school in the spring and must be completed before the first day of school in the fall. All funds MUST be used by September 30, 2011. If you are awarded a grant and find you are unable to use it this summer, all funds must be returned to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. Funds may not be used during other vacation periods or carried over to the following summer.

What is a “Post-Fellowship report”?
Fellows are required to provide the following Post-Fellowship reports: expense report, two-page Post-Fellowship summary, plan for Fellowship implementation of learning, and fellow survey. All reports will be completed online at Fund for Teachers.

When and how frequently are the Pre/Post-Fellowship meetings? There may be one Pre-Fellowship meeting and up to two Post-Fellowship meetings.

Who will make the grant decisions? A local Selection Committee of educators, past grant recipients, corporate and civic leaders will review grants.

What types of grants will be funded?
You can find assistance on the application, including application tips at Fund for Teachers. Applicants should remember to think about professional development, as well as the impact on classroom and school improvement when designing Fellowships.

Is there an interview as well?
No.

What if a team member drops out after the grant is awarded?
