On May 3, State Superintendent Elizabeth Burmaster reported on priorities involving data and assessment, and on the ESEA Reauthorization Task Force at a meeting of the Education Information Management Advisory Consortium (EIMAC) in Washington, D.C. EIMAC was formed by the Council of Chief State School Officers in 2004 to strengthen the organization's effectiveness in approaching national data issues.

The state superintendent attended the regular monthly meeting of the UW Board of Regents on May 4-5. Burmaster is chair of the Regent’s Education Committee.

On May 5, Burmaster addressed the fourth annual Milwaukee Metropolitan Alliance of Black School Educators (MMABSE) Teacher Recognition Gala, an event that recognizes educators from the Milwaukee Public Schools for their achievements and contributions to the staff, students, parents, and the school community. MMABSE promotes and facilitates the education of all students, and African-American students in particular. The group has established a coalition of African American educators and others to exchange ideas and strategies to improve educational opportunities for African-American people and identify and professionally develop African-American educators.
