On the Road

In observance of "May is Manufacturing Month," State Superintendent Elizabeth Burmaster visited the Green Bay Engineering and Manufacturing Academy at Preble High School on May 9. High mileage vehicles (HMV) and electrathon car projects showcase the remarkable engineering and manufacturing opportunities offered through the program. Attending the tour along with Burmaster were Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce Vice President Jim Morgan, Green Bay Area Superintendent of Schools Dan Nerad, Preble High School Principal Christopher Wagner and Engineering & Manufacturing Academy Coordinator Jeremie Meyer, students from the engineering program at Preble High School, and Vice President Rick Renard of Renco Machine. Renco is one of the businesses which support the academy. Later in the day, toured Renco's facilities in Green Bay.

On May 10 and 11, Burmaster attended the UW Board of Regents meeting in Madison.

On May 10, she traveled to Milwaukee for the annual meeting of the Wisconsin Credit Union League. She gave a speech to the attendees emphasizing the urgent need to instill financial literacy in young people, and congratulated the credit union community for its leading role in this effort.

On Saturday, May 12, the state superintendent delivered the commencement addresses for the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse College of Liberal Studies, School of Education, and Departments of Recreation & Therapeutic Recreation, Health Education, and Exercise and Sport Science. In addition to congratulating the class of 2007 and saluting them as part of Wisconsin's tradition of excellence, Burmaster urged graduates to find ways to serve others at the same time as pursuing other life goals.
