On Thursday, May 24, State Superintendent Elizabeth Burmaster recognized winners of the Governor's School Health Awards at the Capitol Rotunda in Madison. In congratulating the 20 award-winning schools, Burmaster noted that caring for the well-being of students and staff is an important component to a successful school. Also speaking at the event were First Lady Jessica Doyle and Paul Costanzo, co-chair of the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Health. The awards recognize schools for supporting and promoting healthy eating; exercise; alcohol-, tobacco-, and drug-free lifestyles; parental and community involvement; and staff wellness.

That evening, Burmaster attended and was introduced at the 20th Wisconsin Women in Government Banquet, where attendees listened to keynote speaker Elizabeth Edwards.
