1. On the road
From Saturday, July 28, through Tuesday, July 31, State Superintendent Elizabeth Burmaster was in Portland, Maine, for meetings of the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) and its Task Force on 21st Century Teaching and Learning. In her role as current president of CCSSO, Burmaster delivered an address in which she encouraged members to continue to rise to the challenge she had set before them at a previous meeting: "to focus on how we can work together to equip students with the knowledge and skills that will prepare them for success in the 21st century global society."
On Thursday, August 2, the State Superintendent addressed the New Superintendents Academy, an event organized by the Wisconsin Association of School District Administrators. Burmaster thanked the district superintendents for their hard work and commitment and struck the theme of partnership, emphasizing that educators at all levels "must work together if we want to see education move forward in a time of scarce resources and challenging legislation."
