Elizabeth Burmaster |
1. On the roadOn Tuesday, August 28, State Superintendent Elizabeth Burmaster addressed the Wisconsin Women's Network's celebration of the 87th anniversary of the right to vote for women. Burmaster said, "Research tells us that men are still more likely than women to choose a career in politics on their own, while women are more likely to be recruited, that some kind of prodding is needed. Well, this is your prodding! My hope is that every person in this room will commit to active engagement in the political process, from building strong campaigns to mobilizing voters on election day, actively encouraging potential candidates, and from running for office to communicating regularly with your elected officials on issues that matter to you." On Thursday, August 30, the State Superintendent began her day at the Milwaukee Partnership Academy Executive Meeting held at the Private Industry Council in Milwaukee. Later that day she spoke at the grand opening of the United Community Center's Early Childhood Education Center in Milwaukee. Burmaster emphasized the importance of early childhood education in children's development. The early childhood facility will house UCC's 3-, 4-, and 5-year-old programs under one roof and allow for expansion of 3-year-old programming. ![]()
