1. On the road

On Tuesday, November 13, State Superintendent Elizabeth Burmaster participated in a meeting of the Wisconsin Technical College System Board. The board received a report on efforts to encourage the transfer of course credits between Wisconsin technical colleges and University of Wisconsin schools, and heard an update on the activities of the Committee on Baccalaureate Expansion (COBE), a joint effort with the UW System to increase the number of degree completers in the state.

That afternoon, Burmaster addressed the State Superintendent's Conference on Special Education & Pupil Services Leadership Issues. In her speech, Burmaster provided an update on the new state budget, which will increase special education funding over previous budgets.

Later that day, Burmaster met Lieutenant Governor Barbara Lawton to discuss the outcomes of the American for the Arts National Arts Policy Roundtable and arts education in Wisconsin.

On Wednesday, November 14, the state superintendent visited Cuba City to join the community's celebration of Cuba City High School being awarded a No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon from the United States Department of Education. Also in attendance were First Lady Jessica Doyle, State Senator Dale Schultz, State Representative Phil Garthwaite, State Representative Steve Hilgenberg, Cuba City Mayor Bob Beinborn, Dickeyville President Tom Heller, Town of Jamestown representatives Dale Runde, and Cuba City Board of Education members Gary Andrews, Kendal Bruner, Kari Dreessens, Greg Kern, Kevin Lange, and Ron Schroeder.

That evening, Burmaster spoke at the Lifetime Achievement Award dinner of the Wisconsin Foundation for School Music in Madison. The award was presented to Michael Leckrone, director of bands at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

On Thursday, November 15, Burmaster delivered remarks at a Blue Ribbon School community celebration in honor of Neenah Creek Elementary School in Briggsville. Neenah Creek Elementary is part of the Wisconsin Dells School District.
