1. On the road

On Tuesday, December 18, State Superintendent Elizabeth Burmaster participated in a meeting of the Greater Milwaukee Committee Accountability and Support Group. She received updates from Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) on the implementation of their strategic plan, and answered questions about the Department of Public Instruction's role in supporting the improvement efforts of MPS.

On Wednesday, December 19, Burmaster, along with John Humphries and Jon Hisgen of the DPI, was back in Milwaukee to accept the Collaborative Partner of the Year award from Mental Health America of Wisconsin. For over four years, Mental Health America of Wisconsin has worked with DPI on youth suicide prevention. This includes developing a toolkit, and providing training, grants and other resources to help schools and community coalitions prevent the tragedy of youth suicide.
