On Tuesday, February 12, State Superintendent Elizabeth Burmaster convened a meeting of the American Diploma Project & Partnership for 21st Century Skills (ADP/P21) team. ADP/P21 is a DPI-led effort, in coordination with two national initiatives, to ensure that the Wisconsin Model Academic Standards in English language arts and mathematics are aligned with postsecondary and workforce expectations. At this meeting, participants reviewed the feedback of the national ADP and P21 initiatives on Wisconsin's work thus far.

On Friday, February 15, the state superintendent visited Ronald McNair Academy in Milwaukee, to participate in an event with Guion Bluford, Jr., the first African American astronaut to go into space. Also present was Milwaukee Public Schools Superintendent William Andrekopoulos. McNair Academy uses a curriculum based on science, especially aviation and space science, and is named for Ronald E. McNair, the MIT physicist who became the second African American astronaut to orbit the Earth.

Later that day, Burmaster met with her Parent Leadership Corps, a group of parents that provides the state superintendent with parent perspectives on education issues.

That evening, the state superintendent participated in a celebration of the 15th anniversary of the We the People/Wisconsin civic journalism project, which has used mass media to directly involve the public in political campaigns.
