On Sunday, April 13, and Monday, April 14, State Superintendent Elizabeth Burmaster was in Washington, D.C. to participate in the Board of Directors meeting and Legislative Conference of the Council of Chief State School Officers, a national group in which she serves as Immediate Past President.

On Wednesday, April 16, Burmaster opened a meeting of the Professional Standards Council, which assists the State Superintendent in improving educator preparation, licensure, and regulation.

Later that day, State Superintendent Burmaster participated in a meeting of the Governor's Council on Financial Literacy and helped present the Governor's Financial Literacy Innovation (FLI) Awards. The five individual and ten organizational award-winners can be viewed on-line.

On Thursday, April 17, Burmaster convened the first meeting of her Technical Education and Engineering Advisory Council in Wisconsin Dells. The new group includes PK-12 and postsecondary educators as well as representatives from business and the nonprofit world. They will provide the state superintendent with vision and leadership to ensure that all students have access to programs with rigorous and challenging classroom instruction linked to relevant, structured, real-world experiences, and to be successful in a technological and global society.

Later that afternoon, State Superintendent Burmaster addressed the spring meeting of the Wisconsin Association of Colleges of Teacher Education. She updated attendees on education developments in government and highlighted DPI initiatives of interest, including the agency's work to ensure that students graduate ready to succeed in careers or postsecondary education in the 21st century.
