Web site seeks info on Katrina contributionsRandomKid, a web site that seeks "to empower kids to realize the infinite value of who they are right now, and their unique power to make the world a better place because of it," is gathering information on student financial contributions to Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. The information will be provided to national media on August 29, the one-year anniversary of Katrina. The group recently announced that to date, school children across the nation have reported raising more than $5.2 million for hurricane relief. The RandomKid organization hopes to develop a final number representing all 50 states. As part of this effort, they are asking schools and districts to report their fundraising efforts directly. Schools or districts can report this information to their Web site at http://www.randomkid.org/rallyForm/rally.php. The goal is to include every school, from coast to coast, in the national tally. To date, they have heard from schools districts in 24 states, including the five organizations that tallied all donations in their states. To learn more about the organization and its goals, see www.randomkid.org.
