Global Education conference seeks proposalsThe UW System, Wisconsin Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, International Education Committee of the Wisconsin Technical College System, and the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction are sponsoring an October 2006 conference to showcase model initiatives in global and international education. The conference is seeking presentations that highlight best practices in a variety of curricular and program areas, including campus-wide strategic planning for internationalization; internationalizing the curriculum; K-12 teacher training with a global focus; articulating world languages between K-12 and post-secondary institutions; heritage languages; international internships, study, and student teaching abroad; professional development; international collaborations, including collaborations with the business sector; technologically enabled teaching and learning; and effective advocacy with the media, legislature, and the community. Conference organizers are particularly interested in examples of interdisciplinary and inter-institutional collaborations that contribute to a coherent international or global education strategy. Wherever possible, presentations should include information on how educational outcomes have been or will be assessed. The conference will be held October 29-31 in Lake Geneva. Organizers invite proposals that share innovative responses to the challenge of global leadership. Presentations are typically informal descriptions of best practices, rather than formal academic papers. Proposals should be limited to two or three pages and must be submitted by June 16. Include information on the session title; presentation format, such as a panel with other presenters, or separate workshop; a one-paragraph description for the conference program, and a one-page presentation description; the goals of the project or initiative you are presenting; who is impacted; and how it fits into a coherent whole for international education at your institution. Include a description of what your presentation covers and seeks to achieve; format, target audience, handouts and other supporting materials you will show or provide; and any additional information that would be useful to the selection committee. Questions may be directed to Diane Waters, UW System, at dwaters@uwsa.edu or(608) 262-3216. Completed proposals must be e-mailed by June 16 to acss@uwsa.edu. You will receive confirmation of receipt via e-mail. Presentations will be selected and presenters notified by June 30.
