Adult Crossing Guard Recognition WeekDuring the week of January 8-12, Wisconsin will observe its seventh annual Adult School Crossing Guard Recognition Week. The observance falls during the first full week back at school from winter break, a time when Wisconsin weather can offer brisk cold, sunny skies, snow, freezing rain, frigid winds, or any combination of conditions. Winter can be challenging, but our adult school crossing guards throughout Wisconsin help ensure the safety of our children as they go to and from school. Wisconsin's adult school crossing guards help students cross busy streets and reinforce safe-crossing behavior and traffic-hazard identification, which helps reduce young pedestrian deaths and injuries. Over the years, this invaluable contribution has driven down the rates of young pedestrian accidents in spite of increased traffic volume. The recognition event was developed through a partnership of agencies and organizations at the state, county, and local levels. The Department of Public Instruction is a partner in the annual Adult School Crossing Guard Recognition Week. Materials to help observe Adult School Crossing Guard Recognition Week, including copies of this year's poster, a copy of the State Superintendent's Proclamation, and a voluntary Activities Summary Report Form, are available at http://www.adtsea.iup.edu/wisconsin/wiscrossinginfo.htm.
