Webcasts Address School Violence Prevention

The latest installment in a new series called School Crisis Preparedness Monthly Webcasts will go live June 19.

Viewers will learn about the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program, a comprehensive, school-wide approach that has been implemented in more than a dozen countries, and Second Step, an award-winning program that teaches social and emotional skills for violence prevention. Presenters will include Lynn Laska of Cooperative Educational Service Agency (CESA) 9 and Laura Meverden of the Appleton YMCA's Camp Nan A Bo Sho and Bruce B. Purdy Nature Preserve.

To tune in to the 45-minute webcast when it first goes live, visit http://media2.wi.gov/dpi/catalog/ June 19 at 1:15 PM. Click on the title Safe Schools: The Olweus Bullying Prevention Program and Second Step: A Violence Prevention Curriculum.

To view the archived webcast after June 19, go to http://media2.wi.gov/dpi/catalog/ and click on "Student Services/Prevention and Wellness" in the left column menu. Previously produced webcasts from the series are also viewable at that location.

The Department of Public Instruction has produced the monthly safe schools webcasts since December, in partnership with the Wisconsin Office of Justice Assistance, the Wisconsin Department of Health and Family Services, Wisconsin Emergency Management, and the Center for School, Youth and Citizen Preparedness.
