Summer Language Leadership Institute

The Wisconsin Association for Language Teachers (WAFLT) is holding its Summer Language Leadership Institute August 8-10, 2007, on the UW-Madison campus.

The year's workshop offers "the big picture," as well as concrete examples; opportunities to collaborate; coached curriculum development time; rubric design for effective feedback to students; daily lesson planning; and curriculum mapping. Each day participants learn an aspect of the Wisconsin standards-based curriculum design process presented in a model unit, and then apply the concepts to units they develop with help from the presenters.

A keynote luncheon on August 8 features State Superintendent Elizabeth Burmaster speaking about the importance of bringing international perspectives to all subject areas and for all students to learn at least one language other than English, beginning as early as possible in their education. This talk is open to teachers, administrators, and others who do not attend the full conference. Invite those you know with a printable letter of invitation from the state superintendent.

Rates vary, with reduced rates available to multiple teachers from a single school, WAFLT members, full-time students, and retired teachers. "Leadership scholarships" are also available for 10 hours of professional service.
