Book reveals Superior's shores--past and present

Author Margaret Beattie Bogue has blazed a path through history and geography in the much-expanded new edition of Around the Shores of Lake Superior: A Guide to Historic Sites, released this summer by the University of Wisconsin Press. Bogue, an Emeritus Professor at UW-Madison, explores the Lake Superior shoreline clockwise through Minnesota, Ontario, Michigan, and Wisconsin, revealing the richness of local history as seen through hundreds of landmarks and points of interest surrounding the lake. Inside the back cover is a foldout map to all the sites, including Grand Portage, the Agawa Canyon Pictographs, and the Pictured Rocks and Apostle Island National Lakeshores.

The book is available online or through booksellers. And, if this one churns the waters of your students' interest, they can pick up Bogue's older work, Around the Shores of Lake Michigan.
