2. Crisis preparedness conferences

Educators and administrators are invited to a series of conferences around Wisconsin in October which feature hands-on exercises to improve school crisis prevention, intervention, response and recovery efforts.

Schools have a responsibility to prevent, be prepared for, respond to and recover from emergencies and disasters that not only affect the school, staff and students, but also the community. They are important partners in county and community emergency management plans. A safe school environment is also essential for academic achievement.

At the conclusion of events, participants will understand the concept of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) as it applies to crisis planning for schools, know the four phases of crisis planning, lead individuals in the use of table top exercises, understand multidisciplinary approaches to identifying vulnerabilities, and recognize Homeland Security and Safe School resources for school and community stakeholders.
