3. Special education and pupil services conference

There is still time to register for the 23rd Annual State Superintendent's Conference on Special Education and Pupil Services Leadership Issues, Nov. 13-14, 2007, at the Marriott Madison West in Middleton.

Keynote speakers are Gene Bottoms of the Southern Regional Education Board and Dewey Cornell of the Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia. Bottoms plans to deliver a speech called "Dropout Prevention and Improving Graduation Rates" while Cornell will speak to "Assessing Student Threats."

A sampling of tentative sectional topics include: Infant & Early Childhood Mental Health, Bullying, Cutting and Self-harm, Sexual Orientation Issues, and Students with Disabilities & Participation in Athletics.

Participants will also have the opportunity to hear updates on Department of Public Instruction activities.
