2. Three weeks left: apply for gifted and talented grantsThere are about three weeks left to apply for 2007-08 gifted and talented funding from the Department of Public Instruction. The Gifted and Talented Education Grant supports enhancement of schools' capacity to meet the needs of gifted and talented K-12 students in the areas of general intellectual, specific academic, creativity, leadership, and the visual and performing arts. Although in previous years the grant has been targeted to serve middle school students, funding is now available to programs serving students at any level in K-12. The state's 12 cooperative educational service agencies (CESAs), all non-profit organizations, and Milwaukee Public Schools may apply for the grants, estimated to range from $15,000 to $25,000 for individual applicants, or up to $50,000 for multiple entities applying in collaboration. The funds must be expended by June 30, 2008. More information can be found on the application, which is available at the DPI's Gifted and Talented Pupils page. Applications must be submitted electronically by 4:00 p.m., Friday, January 25. ![]()
