5. Live Green Teacher GrantsDiscovery Education and General Motors will award $1,000 grants to forty middle level teachers who inspire their students to learn about and embrace new technologies—in support of "living green." Winning teachers will identify an issue or problem, create an innovative plan to address it, and integrate the topic into classroom teaching through an exciting project that motivates students. Teachers need not be in science areas to be eligible. Applicants are instructed to draft a creative essay with a visionary quality, answering the question, "How will you advance your student's learning about sustaining resources through the use of new and emerging technologies?" Winners will also be invited to a web-delivered professional development program, tailored to cover school-specific green initiatives. Application deadline is May 15, 2008, with winners notified beginning June 9. ![]()
