Letter to SAGE Districts Additional Sage Payment

Date: July 22, 2004

To: School District Administrators of SAGE Districts

From: David Carlson, Director
School Financial Services Team

Re: Additional SAGE Payment

Earlier this year State Superintendent Elizabeth Burmaster learned the SAGE program would be short of full funding in 2003-04. As a result, she requested funding from the legislature's Joint Committee on Finance (JCF) to ensure that all school districts would receive the funds they were entitled to for this critical program

As a result of these efforts, I am pleased to inform you that the JCF approved the department's request to transfer $539,200 GPR from appropriation s. 20.255(2)(cg) - Tuition Payments to appropriation s. 20.255(2)(cu) - Achievement Guarantee Contracts in 2003-04 to permit the department to fully fund SAGE contract aid payments of $2,000 per eligible pupil to school districts. As a result of this action, pending final approval by the Governor, the department will shortly be making an additional SAGE aid payment equal to the amount of aid that was prorated on your June 21, 2004 SAGE electronic funds transfer payment. That payment was equal to $1,988.70 instead of $2,000 for each low income pupil reported by the school. Information about this aid pro-ration was sent to district administrators in a letter dated May 10, 2004.

This payment will be electronically transferred to your district's account on July 26. To check the amount you are to receive, go to the DPI Finance Team website under "Late Breaking Information." For accounting purposes it should be considered a receivable for the 2003-04 school year in Fund 10R, source 650. This information is also being communicated to your district's audit firm.
