Speech and Language: Master Educator Rubric Development Team

The Department of Public Instruction (DPI) has been working towards the full implementation of the new "Teacher Education Program Approval and Licenses" rules, PI 34, of the Wisconsin Administrative Code for the past four years. One component of that effort has been work on a new license stage for Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Master Educator Assessment Process (WMEAP). Several broad-based work teams have developed guidebooks for the three license categories of Administrator, Teacher, and Pupil Service Professionals. The next phase of the work is the development of assessment rubrics based upon the portfolio entry requirements.

The DPI is pleased to announce that Mary Anne Jones is the speech and language pathologist participating on the team as a rubric developer. Mary Anne was asked to be on this team because of her expertise in the area of speech and language.

Mary Anne is a speech and language pathologist and program support teacher for the Madison Metropolitan School District. Mary Anne taught for ten years at Madison East High School before becoming a program support teacher. She was awarded the Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Achievement Award in 1997. Mary Anne has 20 years expertise implementing the Systematic Analysis of Language Transcripts (SALT), a program designed to analyze language production. She has written various articles and given numerous presentations to colleagues in the field regarding the use of SALT.
