Retrieving and Using SPR Data for Local Reports to Parents and GuardiansWhere is the information the district needs to report to parents and guardians? The data is on the DPI web site at http://www2.dpi.state.wi.us/spr, the "Final Publication Reports" page. Links to test scores and special education data for the district are at the bottom of the reports page. The reports page uses what is called "Active Server Page" (ASP) technology. The user makes selections and clicks on a "Submit" button to send the request to the DPI server. In this case, you use the three drop-down boxes to select the year (for example, 2002-03), your district, and the particular report (e.g., attendance). When you click on the "Submit" button, you are sending a request to our server. The server responds by sending back the page of data you requested. Printing the Data You can print the data directly from your browser. The browser treats the page as two separate frames. Please click on the white or data portion of the screen before you click the print button. This will ensure that the data section will print, rather than the top blue section which has only the drop-down boxes. Copying the Data into Microsoft Word You can copy and paste the data from the browser page into Microsoft Word. In testing, this was working well with Internet Explorer 6.0 and Netscape 6.1 -- the formatting transferred into Word. (Earlier versions of either browser may have trouble with the formatting.) Follow these steps: Select the part of the data page that you want to copy into Word. Do this by dragging the mouse over the desired content, or press the Ctrl and A keys to select the entire data section (which includes the header). Then press the Ctrl and C keys to copy the selection. Then switch to a blank Word document and press the Ctrl and V keys to paste the selection into the Word document. Save the Word document. (If you used the Ctrl and A keys to select the entire page for copying, you can delete the extraneous content, such as the page banner, from the Word document.) Repeat this process for all of the SPR reports. This process should also work with other word processing programs, although the formatting may not transfer cleanly. Related Questions What must the report to parents and guardians contain? The SPR statute is the best source of information for what the report must contain. (sec. 115.38, Wis. Statutes) Is there a specified format for the SPR? No, there is no specified format. Must the report be mailed or sent home to parents and guardians, or is posting the report on the Internet sufficient? The report must be mailed or sent home to parents and guardians. Posting the report on the Internet is not sufficient.
