Title I School Improvement Grants - Frequently Asked Questions

back to School Improvement Recovery and Reinvestment page

Q. Will all districts get Title I School Improvement funds under ARRA?
A. No. These funds must be awarded only to districts that have Title I schools identified for improvement under No Child Left Behind (NCLB).

Q. Who is eligible to apply?
A. Eligible applicants are public school districts with Title I schools that have:

  • been identified for improvement (SIFI). To be identified for improvement, schools must miss adequate yearly progress in the same indicator (mathematics, reading, attendance/graduation, or test participation) for two consecutive years.
  • missed Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in mathematics, reading, and/or attendance/graduation.
The DPI will contact eligible districts after AYP results are confirmed.

Q. What is the amount of funds available?
A. It is projected that Wisconsin will receive $42 million. Funds will be available Fall 2009.

Q. When are the applications due?
A. DPI awaits guidance from the U.S. Department of Education to determine the application content and deadline.
