Information for Initial Educators

An Initial Educator is an individual who has completed an approved educator preparation program after August 31, 2004 and who is licensed by the Department of Public Instruction for the first time in a particular level or category.

The Initial Educator's Professional Development Plan (PDP)

• PDP Initial Educator Tool Kit Background and guidance to assist the initial educator with the PDP process.
• PDP Writing Form - Downloadable fillable Word version of the PDP Writing Form.
• Professional Development Plan (PDP) Goal Approval Form - The PDP Team must approve the Initial Educator's goal.
• Initial Educator Goal Interview Video - Interactive Mediasite Video captures a discussion between a DPI-trained facilitator and an educator as they navigate the PDP Goal Writing Process.
• Each Initial Educator is required to submit a signed PDP Goal approval Form to DPI
  Letter Requesting Submission of PDP Goal Approval Forms to DPI
  When DPI receives your PDP Goal Approval form(s), the information will be reviewed by Educator Licensing staff to ensure that all requirements are met. If your PDP goal approval form is in order, you will receive an email from DPI indicating that the form has been reviewed, was found to be correct and complete, and is on file with the department. Be sure to include your current email address on your PDP Goal Approval form. If any problems are identified during the form review, you will be contacted by Educator licensing staff to inform you of what must be done to correct the problem(s).

PDP Timelines for Initial Educators

• Five-year PDP Timeline - It is strongly suggested that initial educators write a five-year plan.
• Four-year PDP Timeline - Initial educators only may choose to write a four-year plan.
• Three-year PDP Timeline - Initial educators only may choose to write a three-year plan.
