ADMINISTRATIONOne of three categories of school district employees, including district administrators, assistant supervisors of special education (A and B), directors of human relations/multi-cultural education/equity, directors of special education, assistant directors of special education, central office administration and pupil services, and library media supervisors.
 
ADMINISTRATION AND OPERATIONSA cost category that includes expenditures for general, school building, and business administration; central services; insurance and judgments; other support services; and non-program transactions.
 
ADVANCED COURSEWORK Advanced Placement Program® (AP), Cooperative Academic Partnership Program (CAPP), and International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme. DPI does not current define advanced coursework. Consequently the inclusion of DPI-Defined Advanced Coursework was discontinued in 2007-08.
 
ADVANCED PLACEMENT PROGRAM® COURSES High school courses that help students prepare to take an Advanced Placement Program ® (AP) Exams. AP ® Exam results are provided by the College Board. Students are eligible to receive advanced placement and/or credit at participating colleges if their scores on the Advanced Placement Program ® (AP) Exams meet the postsecondary institution's criteria. AP ® course codes begin with 200.
 
AID MEMBERSHIPDistrict resident pupil count adjusted to full time equivalency (FTE). (For example, 3-year-old early childhood student counts 0.5 FTE.) It represents the average of the third Friday in September and the second Friday in January membership counts (including part-time attendance by home-based or private school students), plus the summer school and foster group home FTE equivalents. See Membership.
 
AIDES / SUPPORT / OTHER STAFFOne of three categories of school district employees, including bus drivers, bookkeeper, clerical staff, executive assistant/support supervision, plant operation personnel, plant maintenance personnel, cafeteria workers, athletic coaches, educational interpreters-hearing impaired, advisors to student clubs, administrative assistants, directors of transportation, directors of athletics, directors of public relations, recreation department staff, research personnel, program aides, other support staff, other professional staff in non-educational roles.
 
COMMUNITY ACTIVITIESSchool-sponsored and supervised activities which emphasize service to and involvement with the community.
 
COOPERATIVE ACADEMIC PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM (CAPP) COURSESA college or university advanced level course offered at a high school and available to students for college credit through arrangement with a specific college or university. CAPP Courses were formerly referred to as College Advanced Placement Program courses. CAPP course codes begin with 205.
 
CORE SUBJECTSCore subjects are defined by the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) and include "English, reading or language arts, mathematics, science, foreign languages, civics and government, economics, arts, history, and geography." Wisconsin data are reported by Wisconsin Model Academic Standards (WMAS) subject areas. In Wisconsin, the WMAS subjects of English language arts, mathematics, science, foriegn languages, social studies, art and design, dance, music, and theatre are treated as ESEA core subjects.

COURSEA course has a distinct course number and may be offered by more than one teacher or in several classes or sections. If it has a distinct course number, it is counted only once. A course may be one year, one semester, or one quarter in length. A course is not a section or class.
 
CURRENT EDUCATION COSTThe sum of costs attributable to district residents for Instruction, Pupil and Staff Services, and Administration and Operations.
 
DPI-DEFINED ADVANCED COURSEWORK Courses that are specifically identified by DPI as advanced courses other than Advanced Placement Program® (AP), Cooperative Academic Partnership Program (CAPP), and International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme courses. DPI does not current define advanced coursework. Consequently the inclusion of DPI-Defined Advanced Coursework was discontinued in 2007-08.

Beginning with 2002-03 until 2007-08, DPI-defined advanced courses included foreign language courses at the third year or higher and DPI-identified advanced level high school courses in science (e.g. 126-312 Chemistry, 2nd year, Advanced), math (e.g. 124-330 Calculus and Analytic Geometry), and computer science (e.g. 180-102 Advanced Computer Science).

Prior to 2002-03, lower level foreign language courses were also counted so the number of DPI-defined advanced foreign language courses offered by a district may have decreased in 2002-03.

 
EMERGENCY LICENSEEmergency license means the teacher holds an emergency license based on not yet completing an approved teacher education program in their specific assignment(s).
 
ENROLLMENTSee Third Friday Enrollment. For WSAS reporting purposes enrollment is as of the time of testing.
 
ESEAFederal Act called the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, also known as the No Child Left Behind Act.
 
ESEA QUALIFIEDMet definition of highly qualified as provided in the ESEA.
 
EXTRA-/CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIESSchool-sanctioned activities intended to broaden, develop, and enhance a student's school experience in the areas of academics, athletics, and music. Participation is not required and the group or event is not offered for credit or grade.
 
FACILITIESCost category that includes expenditures for facility acquisitions charged to the General, Special Project, and Capital Expansion (Tax Levy Financed "Sinking") funds, and debt service principal and interest.
 
FEDERAL REVENUESchool district resources from federally collected sources paid as categorical aid.
 
FOOD AND COMMUNITY SERVICESCost category that includes expenses for district operated food and community services.
 
FTESee Full-Time Equivalency.
 
FULL LICENSEFull license means the teacher holds a regular license based on completing an approved teacher education program in their specific assignment(s).
 
FULL-TIME EQUIVALENCY (FTE)A person's employment in a school district expressed as a ratio of time spent on the job divided by a standard work week. For example, a kindergarten teacher with only morning classes would be 0.5 FTE.
 
INSTRUCTION Cost category that includes expenses for undifferentiated, regular, vocational, physical, special, and co-curricular instruction.
 
LICENSED STAFFOne of three categories of school district employees, including teachers, subject coordinators, reading specialists, department heads, teachers in charge, school social workers, guidance counselors, school psychologists, school physical therapists, school occupational therapists, program coordinators, school nurses, school librarians, library media specialists, school audiologists, audiovisual/technology specialists, and speech/language pathologists.
 
 
LOCAL REVENUESchool district resources from either property taxes or other local sources (fees, interest payments, insurance refunds, etc.).
 
MEMBERSHIPThe sum of (1) pupils who reside in the district and attend public school in the district and (2) certain pupils who reside in the district and do not attend a public school in the district, adjusted for full time equivalency. Pupils counted in (2) include pupils who are placed in programs for whom the district of residence is paying tuition, pupils attending out-of-district under chapter 220 (integration) or open enrollment, and students enrolled in CESA-operated programs.
 
PERCENT OF TOTAL1) For revenue, dollars (resources in a specific category) divided by total revenues (all resources categories).
2) For cost, dollars (expenditures in a specific cost category) divided by total cost (sum of expenditures).
 
PUPIL AND STAFF SERVICESCost category that includes expenditures for pupil services (such as psychology, social work, and nursing) and staff services (such as curriculum development and inservice training).
 
REVENUE PER MEMBERRevenue divided by Aid Membership.
 
SCHOOL-SPONSORED COMMUNITY ACTIVITIESSee Community Activities.
 
STAFF TO STUDENTS RATIOThe number of FTE staff members (licensed instruction, administration, aides/support/other) divided by the number of students enrolled.
 
STATE REVENUESchool district resources from state-collected sources, such as income or sales taxes, paid as general or categorical aid.
 
STUDENTS TO STAFF RATIOThe number of students enrolled divided by the number of FTE staff members (licensed instruction, administration, aides/support/other) employed by a district.
 
THIRD FRIDAY ENROLLMENTNumber of students eligible to attend class on the third Friday in September, whether or not those students are in attendance on that day.
 
TOTAL COSTThe sum of costs attributable to district residents for Total Education Cost and Food and Community Services. Also called "Total District Cost." See Total Education Cost.
 
TOTAL EDUCATION COSTThe sum of costs attributable to district residents for Current Education Cost, Transportation, and Facilities. See Current Education Cost.
