Step 6: Design specific strategies
Goals are meaningless unless they are committed to by actions. This part of the improvement planning process puts faith in the hypotheses set forth by the school improvement team. For each goal, several strategies need to be designed. Specific strategies can come naturally from the hypotheses that were accepted as possibilities. For each strategy, give a specific timeline and identify a person responsible.
Sample strategies are -
Formulate a mathematics committee representing grades 6,7, and 8, with representatives from intermediate and high school mathematics. The committee will be charged with making textbook and materials adoption recommendations to the school board. The primary focus will be on middle grades, but issues regarding elementary and high school mathematics programs will be heard, and action taken as necessary to maintain a rigorous, connected scope and sequence that is standards-based. |
