EDFacts Overview
The State of Wisconsin uses EDFacts to report educational data to the U.S. Department of Education. All states use EDFacts to submit data. Wisconsin submits data annually under the authority of OMB 1850-0925 (until 06/30/2025).
EDFacts does not collect student-level data. Many of the requirements of WISEdata and other DPI data collections are driven by the data requirements of EDFacts.
Wisconsin data submission meets data requirements of annual and final grant reporting and helps inform analysis and funding of many educational programs.

EDFacts Metadata - Data Categories

The files include the categories collected as well as the EDFacts definition of those categories.

Directory: Wisconsin Public Schools and Grades Offered
These federal directory reports are generated from the authoritative school directory, and grade offered data is sent to the U.S. Dept of Education by Wisconsin as part of the EDFacts data system. It is the official report used by nearly all federal agencies as the definitive source for school codes and mailing lists.
The EDEN-017 and EDEN-028 reports contain NCES codes for 2021-22 and future schools and LEAs known as of August 2022. A status of 7 indicates a Future status and can be found under column Z in the District Directory (DG 16) and column AB in the School Directory (DG 531).
