2025 Wisconsin Report Card Standard Setting Update

This summer, the 2025 Wisconsin Report Card Standard Setting Panel is meeting to review and recommend updates to the rating thresholds used for annual school and district report cards. The report card standard setting is being conducted to align the rating system with current performance measures and updates to report cards since they were introduced in 2011-12. The panel, comprised of education leaders from across Wisconsin, will make rating threshold recommendations that will be submitted to the state superintendent for adoption and be incorporated into the 2024-25 report cards published this fall.

The first of two panel meetings took place on Tuesday, June 10. The group met virtually in an open meeting to walk-through an overview of the process, ask questions, establish meeting norms, and provide feedback on performance level descriptors. You can learn more about this first meeting in this DPI News Release from June 11.

The panel will continue its work in-person in Madison next week for a multi-day session from August 12-14, 2025. Panelists will engage in analysis and discussion to recommend updates to report card rating thresholds. This session will be an open meeting (see meeting details) and will be led by the Center for Assessment, a national expert in state accountability systems.

To support your communication with staff and communities, the DPI has created several resources explaining the context and role of standard setting, published on the 2025 Wisconsin Report Card Standard Setting webpage.
