Adoption of Standards for Theatre

Friday, December 21, 2018

Dear District Administrators and CESA Administrators,

State Superintendent has adopted new Wisconsin Standards for Theatre. These academic standards were developed by Wisconsin educators and experts using a transparent and inclusive process with public engagement and feedback.

We have posted these new standards on the following web page. In the future, we will post additional supporting resources and professional learning for educators related to these standards on this content area webpage. This is exciting work, and we have had very positive feedback from educators and business leaders in this area who were engaged in reviewing these new standards.

Also, the State Superintendent has authorized revision of Wisconsin Standards for World Languages and Dance following the recommendation of the State Superintendent’s Standards Review Council and based on public feedback. A draft of these revised standards, being developed by our state-wide writing committees and informed by key stakeholders from the Wisconsin education and business communities, will be released in late January 2019 for a 30-day public and legislative comment period, which will include two public hearings. You can follow updates on this work at our main standards webpage and on the main World Languages and Dance webpages.

Please contact John Johnson, Director, Literacy and Mathematics Team, if you have any questions.

Please share this information with your staff, and encourage them to use these new standards.
