Spring Book Study - An Invitation

Wednesday, January 8, 2020

Components: 1a, 2a, 6b
By: Joseph Kanke

The fall book club of Anthony Mohammad’s and Luis Cruz’s A Time for Change was a huge success. Here is feedback from one participant, “Our team really enjoyed this book group and plan to enroll in the next. What we also have found is that when we meet together as a group, the book talk energizes us to talk about ways that we can improve our leadership practices in our district.”

I’ve always thought participating in book studies within my own building or district were insightful, but engaging with a group of educators from across the state can illuminate new thinking and insight. If you are looking for an opportunity such as this, consider signing up for this spring’s book--Leading Student-Centered Coaching: Building Principal and Coach Partnerships.

A summary of the text states: Strong leadership is essential in any successful instructional coaching effort. This action-oriented guide provides principals and district leaders with the background, practices, and tools required for leading coaching efforts that have a measurable impact on student and teacher learning. Filled with ideas that school leaders can easily apply, this book includes:

  • Tools and techniques for preparing a school for coaching, launching a coaching culture, and supporting coaches
  • Leadership moves and lessons from the field that provide strategies for building principal and coach partnerships
  • Recommendations for coaches to use as they strive to increase their impact

By signing up, participants agree to attend a short twenty minute orientation and three one-hour discussion sessions. In exchange for the commitment to collaborative dialogue, participants will receive a copy of the text.

The book club is first come, first serve but precedence will be given to coach/principal partnerships and teams.
