As a Wisconsin Multi-Level System of Supports (WIMLSS) coach, I help districts navigate the complexities of educational systems by connecting various projects to their broader goals. My coaching approach focuses on breaking down complex systems, making connections, and aligning efforts so they are cohesive, intentional, and sustainable.
Often, districts don’t know where to start. A key part of my work is helping districts articulate their current state and desired future state. This often involves examining the full range of initiatives taking place and assessing the capacity of staff to take on these efforts. One of the critical steps is identifying areas of overlap between different initiatives so we can build connections and streamline the work. District staff often describe the process as “trying to keep the plates spinning.” My role as a coach is to look for ways to reduce the number of spinning plates, helping the district focus on the most impactful actions without feeling overwhelmed.
I also work closely with districts to ensure clear articulation of goals and actions. By defining the steps needed for improvement and ensuring that these are communicated effectively to staff, we make sure everyone is aligned and aware of what’s happening across the district. This clarity reduces confusion, fosters collaboration, and allows for intentional, focused efforts that lead to measurable progress.
As a coach, I place a strong emphasis on building relationships and trust. I recognize that change can be challenging, so I work to create a supportive, open environment where district leaders and staff feel heard and valued. I also engage in regular self-reflection to ensure that I’m adapting my approach to best meet the needs of each district. Through this relational and reflective coaching style, I help districts connect their efforts, align their systems, and create a more streamlined approach to improvement.
